Amphibians
A survey for protected amphibians (great crested newt and natterjack toad) and assessment for potential impacts is likely to be required wherever a project within or near to suitable habitat is proposed. Occasionally surveys may also be required for common frog, common toad, smooth newt and palmate newt. We have licensed and experienced experts within our survey team who can provide survey and assessment, design of mitigation and licence applications.
Examples of projects which are likely to require amphibian surveys and assessment may include:
SUDS and drainage affecting water bodies
pond restoration and management
vegetation clearance, tree felling/pruning in areas of suitable habitat within up to 500m of a great crested newt breeding pond
development within suitable habitat up to 500m of a great crested newt breeding pond
ecological impact assessment including residential, commercial and wind farm developments and mineral extraction
Reptiles
An assessment for reptiles is required wherever suitable habitats may be affected by a proposed development or management plan. In Scotland surveys may be required for adder, sand lizard (very rare), slow worm, grass snake and common lizard.
