Bat surveys
We provide in-house expertise on the survey of bats in Scotland, using only licensed bat workers. Whether you require dusk and dawn activity surveys, internal and external inspection of structures for bat roosts, tree climbing surveys or an application for licensing with mitigation for the disturbance or destruction of bat roosts - we can assist. In addition to the above services we have extensive experience of undertaking bat surveys for wind farm developments throughout Scotland. Surveys of proposed wind farm sites may include manual transect surveys, static detector surveys and height surveys. We have successfully completed height surveys on a number of sites by mounting bat detector microphones on meteorological masts and/or by using our custom-made helium balloon to fly detectors at heights of up to 60m above ground level.
We own a large array of specialist equipment which can be used to effectively measure and record bat activity. Equipment includes Anabat SD2 detectors, together with a range of other detectors including Wildlife Acoustics SM2 and SM2+ detectors, and a helium balloon to sample bat activity at heights up to 60m. Specialist bat detecting equipment is available for hire (please contact us for further details).
Examples of projects which are likely to require bat survey work include:
building renovations and conversions
demolition works
bridge/viaduct maintenance and restoration works
tree felling/pruning
ecological impact assessment including wind farm developments, housing and quarry development
post construction monitoring
